Its basically my home!
Do you want a tour or something? Its really nice here.

You bet! Theres a bunch of spiders around.
Do you like spiders? I love them. Theyre pretty neat!

[trainees]

[ does he like spiders? the question actually makes him laugh a little, even though jake can't hear him. ]

yeah i'm a fan of them
and i'm glad you are too

if it's not too much trouble do you mind showing me?

Sure thing chum! Ill meet you by the lake.
A lot of them hang out in the caves around it.

oh man thanks!

i gotta get some stuff together first

Tomorrow is good! Im just hanging around here lollygagging.
And i love apples!! Fruit is my favourite thing.

[ it's mid afternoon by the time peter gets the the floater island, sending jake a quick text after parking the sub. he took a photo of the map back at the lab and he has it open on his communicator as he navigates his way to the lake. ]

hey jake!
sorry for the wait thanks for meeting me
i'm heading to the lake now
see you soon!

no it works great!!

Ill be waiting for you!

[Sure enough Jake is sitting in a tree by the lake. When he sees Peter approaching, he jumps down and waves.]

Salutations! Ready for the hunt?

[ jake looks so at home, peter is pretty impressed, to be honest. he waves back when jake jumps down, slipping his communicator into his pocket. ]

Yeah, you bet! Oh, and I brought you something too.

[ he tosses over a container. inside are apple chips. ]

[potentite]

[Jake catches it, opening it curiously.]

Whoa, are these chips? [He's so excited junk food?? He immediately starts eating them and discovers they are even better than junk food because they actually taste good.] Hot diggity dog! Did you make these?

[trainees]

[ he grins when jake seems to like it, nodding. ]

Yeah, they're apple chips. My aunt's recipe.

[ he really does miss her a lot. it feels weird not going home at the end of the day. ]

I didn't want to come empty handed, especially since you were so cool with having me come over and everything.

[potentite]

Your aunt must be a great cook. [Look he doesn't get much food. He still mostly just cooks fish and eats fruit. This is some Gordon Ramsey shit.] But it's no trouble! It's not like it's my island. I mean, it feels a little like it but I just live here a lot.

[trainees]

She's good, yeah. Just don't have her make meatloaf.

[ it's pretty gross. gordon ramsey would flip his shit. ]

It's kinda like your second home, isn't it? I can see why. It's nice to actually, you know, be on land.

[ like the base is alright, but nothing beats actual dirt and soil. ]

[potentite]

[He chuckles at the meatloaf comment. Well, everyone has something they're bad at?

He stretches his arms up with a smile.]

Pretty much. I grew up in a jungle, so it feels right to be here.

[trainees]

[ he loves his aunt, ok. just not her meatloaf. ]

I get what you mean.

[ jake stretches his arms and peter takes in a deep, deep breath. he hasn't been on base too long, but it feels like it's been months since he actually breathed fresh air, or stood on solid dirt and ground. he can feel the cramped anxiety he gets in the base leaving his shoulders.

he feels at ease for the first time since getting to iniidae. ]

So where's this cave you told me about?

[potentite]

[Jake understands. On the base, his usual anxieties and worries seem to triple for no good reason except that he's locked up somewhere. Here, he might still be a nervous wreck at times but he's free.]

Oh, right! Do you mind wading a little? Just your shoes off should be enough.

[Jake's already taking his off and placing them aside. He starts leading him around the lake.]

They seem pretty fond of water. I'm no scientist but it makes sense if everything around here evolved to be compatible with water.

[trainees]

Okay.

[ he'll just take off his shoes and roll up his pant legs, making a mental note to find shorts to wear next time. ]

Yeah, that's basically what URSULA told me earlier. Their webs must be able to hold up well underwater too.

[potentite]

[Jake steps into the water, ducking into the cave. He has to be careful now since he doesn't want to disturb anything.]

Yeah, they sort of go into the water. It's pretty neato! Too bad so many people are frightened by arachnids.

[He stops and bends over to point at a web.] There we go. Here's one!

[trainees]

[ he follows after jake, keeping his steps light to avoid any mishaps. ]

Yeah, it's a shame. I can understand why they would be, though.

[ before the accident, peter wasn't really a fan of spiders either. but that's neither here nor there. peter knows better than to just touch the web, so he takes out the knife that was part of their welcome pack, lightly tapping the lower corner of the web to attract the spider. ]

[potentite]

[Jake smiles a little as he watches the spider scurry out.]

Aw, but how can you not like them? They're small and furry.

[trainees]

I think all the legs make people nervous, you know?

[ once the spider comes out, peter is ready with a large jar he brought from the base, coaxing the spider in. he'll throw in some leaves and twigs later for the spider, but for now, he'll just keep it in there. ]

You're right, though. They're pretty cute. [ he also thinks it's kind of cute that jake is so enamored with them. ] I'll bring him back later after I get some samples at the lab.
