Oh! Well, they never solved anything but it might be good to try anyway!

[splinten]

At least we could get Space Station Youtube Famous if we put some effort into it.

[potentite]

I bet people would be riveted by you.

[splinten]

Dude, look at my expressiveness. [He gestures at his face. It isn't emoting much.]

[potentite]

Now now, I think that would catch the fancy of some sardonic youth.

[splinten]

Maybe. I don't really have that Indiana Jones vibe that you nail.

[potentite]

[Flush, he glances down at the table.]

That's... well, it requires nothing more than practice, promise.

[splinten]

I'm pretty sure practice wouldn't let me nail that.

[He gestures at himself.]

[potentite]

Nah, I've practiced it my whole life but... even by the time you met me, you bought into it, didn't you? So, probably a few years is good enough.

[splinten]

[He frowns a little, spinning his crazy straw in the cup.]

I wouldn't say that I 'bought into it' the way I think you mean. I knew you were a rugged adventurer type for real. I also knew that you were a huge, nerdy dork who was afraid of monsters and preferred watching movies to throwing yourself at those monsters.

Not that you don't for real like danger, but you were scared, too. I wasn't fooled otherwise.

[potentite]

[His gaze flicks up for a moment, startled, before he returns to looking at the table. It's hard to imagine.]

You really knew me that well?

[splinten]

[Dirk isn't sure if he's pushing in the wrong direction or not. The best he can do is tell the truth. So, tentatively, he says,]

I mean... yeah. We talked about it a couple times. Right?

[potentite]

I suppose, but I guess...

[It's hard to understand how Dirk could know some of the cowardly parts of him and still have liked him. He doesn't know how to say that without sounding accusatory though.]

I... guess we should um... set aside some time to talk at some point huh? About... stuff.

[splinten]

[Ah. Yeah. Dirk rubs at the back of his neck, but nods.] That would probably be an important thing for us to take care of. Yeah.

[potentite]

[Jake fidgets with the edge of the table.] Only if you want? I mean, um, if you'd rather we just...

[He frowns, unable to finish the sentence. He doesn't want to.]

[splinten]

I want to. [It comes rushed out, and he stops himself. He's frowning.] At the least, I owe you an apology. So... yeah.

[potentite]

[Mumbled:] I owe you one more, so. I at least want to give you that.

[splinten]

[It feels like arguing it would just be worse. So, instead, he says,] We both have apologies to give, I guess. When do you wanna...?

[potentite]

Um, when do you want to? [Dirk says he's feeling better but he would hate to push him.]

[splinten]

Whenever you're okay with it. It isn't like I have a busy schedule here.

[potentite]

Me either! Completely free.

[splinten]

Uh, then... Now?

[potentite]

O—Okay, yes, certainly.

[Shit he wants to run now. The whole reason he wanted Dirk to pick was so he couldn't run from it, so he couldn't put it off, but it turns out his instinct to run comes anyway.]

[splinten]

Um. Are you sure?

[He doesn't look sure.]
